TOURNAMENT RULES
GENERAL RULES
- There are two eight minute halves with a two minute halftime. If the game ends in a tie after regulation time there will be a three minute overtime period. Ties at the end of any overtime period will result in successive two minute periods until the tie has been broken.
- Time Outs: Two per team per game - duration 45 seconds in length.
- 3 on 3 basketball is a half court game played by 2 teams of three with a maximum of 4 per roster. Teams MUST have at least three people to start a game.
- Substitutions. Substitutions may be made after a basket or any stoppage of play.
- Coin Toss. The team listed first on the scoresheet shall call the toss and choose to take the ball.
- The possession changes after each basket (this is NOT make it, take it).
- The “Check Line” is determined behind the “three point arc”. The ball and both feet must be beyond the arch at the beginning of each half. The ball must be checked by an opposing player before it is put into play. The player must pass the ball at the top of the court to begin play.
- The ball must be “taken back” past the “three point line” on each and every change of possession. Violation occurs only if a basket is made by the team failing to properly “take it back”, and will result in possession to the other team.
- On defensive rebounds (including airballs) and steals, the ball must be passed or dribbled beyond the arc. The ball does not need to be given to a different player. As long as the ball and both feet go beyond the arc, there are no limitations on who can shoot it.
- Any player may convert an offensive rebound.
- The Three Point Shot is in affect and 2 points will be awarded for a shot made behind the arc and 1 point for any shot made on or inside the arc.
- If the ball is knocked out of bounds or goes across the mid court line it shall be awarded to the opposing team (the team that did not knock it out). The offensive team must check the ball with the defensive team at the top of the key.
- All jump balls will be called by the Team Hoops Referee and will go to the team on defense.
- The front of the portable baskets will be played out-of-bounds. The top of the backboard is out-of-bounds; however, the sides and bottom of the backboard are in play.
FOULS AND VIOLATIONS
- Every court will have at least one (1) Team Hoops Referee. All fouls and violations will be called by the Team Hoops Referee.
- If a fouled is called while a player is attempting a shot and the basket is made then count the basket, record the foul and no foul shot is awarded.
- Five fouls and you are out of the game.
- A Team Hoops Referee may call a technical foul for flagrant, intentional fouls. A dead ball technical foul shot will be awarded to the team fouled. The team captain selects the shooter for one shot from free throw distance. The shooting team also retains possession of the ball following the free throw, whether the shot is made or missed.
- Continual misconduct or flagrant/intentional fouling will result in immediate dismissal of the guilty player or teams from that particular game and/or all remaining games at the discretion of AN OFFICIAL TEAM HOOPS SPOKESPERSON. Fighting and or throwing a punch will not be tolerated under ANY circumstances and will result in immediate dismissal without refund.
